A book named “Swadhinotar Ponchas Bochor: Shastho Khater Bikash”, marking the progress of the health sector in Bangladesh, was unveiled on Saturday.
The book has been published by “Prothoma Prokashon” during a book launching ceremony at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.
The ceremony was organized by Bangladesh Health Watch, a multistakeholder civil society organization, said a press release.
Prominent economist Dr Rehman Shobhan was present at the event as the chief guest.
The ceremony was chaired by Dr Rawnak Jahan, convener, Advisory Group Bangladesh Health Watch.
Speaking as a special guest, Dr Jahirul Islam said: “Each chapter in the book deals with important information about the 50 years journey, but apart from the ‘success saga’, we have many issues to discuss and shed light on.”
Another special guest Malika Banu said: “We need to ensure a healthcare system where there will be no gender bias. A gender bias-free health policy needs to be formed.”
Moreover, she also pointed out that our achievement in millennium development goals has been faded away because of our corruption and mismanagement in the health sector.
A total of 99 authors from home and abroad have contributed to the book. Most authors are public health experts, researchers, academics, journalists, and doctors.
