Badhon will play a Bangladeshi character in the film, which is based on Amar Bhushan’s 2012 spy novel 'Escape to Nowhere'
Bangladeshi actor Azmeri Haque Badhon is set to embark on her Bollywood journey with the Indian National Film Award-winning director Vishal Bhardwaj's latest film "Khufiya."
The news was first confirmed by the "Haider" filmmaker himself when he posted a photo with Badhon on his Instagram handle.
"So delighted to have this gorgeous actor from Bangladesh @Badhon__hq #Khufiya," wrote Bhardwaj.
The Bollywood director is best known for his Shakespeare trilogy 'Maqbool', ‘Omkara’ and 'Haidar.’ He is the recipient of seven National Film Awards in four categories.
“Khufiya” is based on Amar Bhushan’s 2012 spy thriller “Escape to Nowhere.” It follows a whistleblower, who nervously drops in to share his suspicion about a senior colleague’s involvement in espionage with the head of the security division of the Agency, India’s External Intelligence Service.
“Loosely inspired by a true incident that took place in 2004 when a senior intelligence officer suspected of being a spy for decades vanished, the story also treats us to a rare insight into the state of security awareness of employees in the Agency, constrains in conducting aggressive operations, pitfalls in liaison relationship, competing interests of intelligence services, hazards in co-ordination of intelligence inputs and the Kashmir imbroglio,” reads the book synopsis.
Badhon will play a Bangladeshi character in the film, the cast of which also includes prominent actors Tabu, Ali Fazal, Ashish Vidyarthi, Wamiqa Gabbi and others.
Badhon confirmed her casting to Dhaka Tribune Showtime. “Filming has already begun. I went to Delhi on October 10. Shooting will continue till the end of October. Earlier on September 26, I attended the table read and the look test in Delhi.”
“The director and the team are excellent. Everyone is very well behaved and professional. Most of my scenes are with Tabu, an actor I admire dearly,” Badhon added.
The actor, who started her career with a beauty pageant, drew critical acclaim for her performance in the 2021 Cannes-selected feature “Rehana Maryam Noor.” She has been nominated in the Best Actress category at the 14th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).
