David Cronenberg started filming his new sci-fi thriller “Crimes of the Future” in Europe, starring Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart and Scott Speedman.
The film marks the fourth collaboration between Mortensen and Cronenberg who previously worked together in “Eastern Promises,” “A History of Violence” and “Falling.”
The cast also features Tanaya Beatty (Yellowstone), Nadia Litz (Big Muddy), Yorgos Karamichos (The Durrells), and Yorgos Pirpassopoulos (Beckett).
According to Deadline, the film is set to wrap up production in September 2021.
“As we begin filming Crimes Of The Future, just two days into this new adventure with David Cronenberg, it feels like we’ve entered a story he collaborated on with Samuel Beckett and William Burroughs, if that were possible,” said Mortensen. “We are being pulled into a world that is not quite like this or any other, and yet is one that feels strangely familiar, immediate and quite credible. I can’t wait to see where we end up.”
The thriller is set in a future where human beings learn to adapt to their synthetic surroundings and their swiftly transforming biological makeup.
Neon has already acquired the distribution rights for the film in the United States. The release date is yet to be revealed
