The film is based on the real-life story behind the murder of fashion icon Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), orchestrated by his wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga)
MGM studios has released the first trailer for director Ridley Scott’s upcoming film “House of Gucci” -- based on the 2001 book, “The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed.”
The trailer begins with Gaga lamenting, “It was a name that sounded so sweet, so seductive, synonymous with worth, style, power, but that name was a curse, too.”
The film is based on the murder of fashion icon Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), orchestrated by his wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), after she had learned of his extramarital affair.
“This project has long been a labor of love for both Ridley and me,” said Giannina Scott, wife of Ridley Scoot and the producer of the film. “The story is so epic, the stakes so high and the characters so richly drawn.”
“House of Gucci is inspired by the shocking true story of the family empire behind the Italian fashion house of Gucci. Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder, we see what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far a family will go for control,” reads the official synopsis.
Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci looked unrecognizable in the trailer and took fans by surprise. However, he could not impress the Gucci family who remain opposed to the film.
On behalf of the Gucci family, Patrizia Gucci, the great-grandchild of Guccio Gucci, had previously released a statement blasting the film and its cast.
Jared Leto’s “unkempt hair and a lilac corduroy suit” looked “horrible, horrible,” the Gucci heir said. “I still feel offended.”
“We are truly disappointed. I speak on behalf of the family. They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system,” she said.
The casting of Al Pacino and Jared Leto as Aldo and Paolo Gucci, respectively, have been also slammed by the Gucci family, who were, to say the least, not impressed.
'My grandfather was a very handsome man, like all the Guccis, and very tall, blue eyes and very elegant. He is being played by Al Pacino, who is not very tall already, and the photo shows him as fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly,” said Patrizia Gucci.
The film is slated for release on November 24. Watch the full trailer below:
