Joaquin Phoenix is set to reunite with Lynne Ramsay, who directed “You Were Never Really Here.”
The 2019 psychological drama starred Phoenix in the lead role as a PTSD-ridden veteran who locates missing girls for a living.
Phoenix bagged the Best Actor prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in “You Were Never Really Here.”
During a recent visit to the Valencia International Film Festival, director Ramsay revealed a few details about her upcoming film, adding that Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix will be sharing the screen.
Phoenix and Mara have previously starred together in films such as Spike Jonze’s “Her,” Garth Davis’ “Mary Magdalene,” and Gus Van Sant’s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.”
“He’s crazy, but he’s the best actor I’ve ever met. Everything he does on the set has a reason,” Ramsay said about Phoenix. “It’s much more difficult when you come up with an original idea like this, but it’s impossible not to get excited when you’re preparing a movie with Joaquin.”
“Neither of us are very verbal,” Phoenix said about directopr Ramsay. We don’t like to intellectualize about the character. It was all in the doing…Lynne’s always chasing something, and that’s who you want to work with.”
Ramsay is also best known for directing “We Need to Talk About Kevin” and “Ratcatcher.”
