Actor Mark Ruffalo has recently apologized for his social media posts, saying that he wrongfully accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians.
While some have praised his apology, others were quick to speculate that the actor has been forced into a compromise regarding his political stance on the matter.
I have reflected & wanted to apologize for posts during the recent Israel/Hamas fighting that suggested Israel is committing “genocide”. It’s not accurate, it’s inflammatory, disrespectful & is being used to justify antisemitism here & abroad. Now is the time to avoid hyperbole.

That Mark Ruffalo retraction tweet is actually scary. So many celebrities put their contracts before speaking up for human rights.

Both American Jewish organizations and mosques have reported a surge in hate crimes amid the escalation in violence between Israel and Palestine.
In a tweet on May 11, Ruffalo compared Israel to former South African apartheid state and called for economic sanctions.
Having a large platform is not equivalent to the work of the many people who are doing grassroots work. You have no idea what you call ‘armchair warriors’ are doing IRL.

The truth is Ruffalo is just an actor who bailed on a cause when it got uncomfortable. https://t.co/ZQYl80XO56
Some fans are suggestion that the actor has been "intimidated into silence" and "backtracking." While others condemned him for retracting his staement.
Previously, models Gigi and Bella Hadid and British-Albanian singer Dua Lipa have also been accused of antisemitism for taking the Pro-Palestine stance.
