Peaky Blinders to end after season 6, spinoff confirmed

The season six production of the Cillian Murphy starrer Peaky Blinders has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. But the creator is assuring fans that the forthcoming season will be the best of the series yet. 

“‘Peaky’ is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher."

Steven Knight confirmed rumours about an upcoming spinoff. "We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

Executive producer Caryn Mandabach said, “Along with our wonderful, supportive, partners at BBC and Netflix, we have been working diligently to ensure we can get ‘Peaky’ safely back into production; the safety of our cast and crew is always our priority."

"Thank you to all the ‘Peaky’ fans who have been so unwaveringly supportive and patient. Steve’s scripts are incredible and mark the end of an epic story that has entranced audiences since it first started in 2013, but the world of ‘Peaky Blinders’ will most definitely live on," he added.

Earlier, in 2019, Knight said at the Peaky Blinders Festival in Birmingham that he "would consider doing a film" after the TV series completes its run. 

The British show thus joins the growing list of TV shows that are making a comeback as feature length spin offs. 

As part of the latest trend, The Sopranos prequel, titled, The Many Saints of Newark, will see director David Chase explore the origins of the widely beloved mafia family, set against a backdrop of the Newark riot. 

AMC is also set to release The Walking Dead films with Andrew Lincoln reprising his role as Rick Grimes.

It is very likely that Peaky Blinders will next grace the big screens. The British period crime drama premiered in 2013 and received critical acclaim for exploring rarely-discussed British history on TV.
