From candle light ceremonies to open film screenings, the film society is holding a three-day commemorative ceremony in the month of December

Update : 14 Dec 2020, 09:59 PM

In the month of December every year, a three-day commemorative ceremony titled ‘Smritir Bijoy’ (Triumph of Memory) is held by Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS).

On the 14th, a candle light ceremony and a remembrance for intellectuals, killed by Pakistani forces and their collaborators during the Liberation War, are held.

This year, a webinar was held online on Monday, December 14, at 8pm, attended by family members of the martyrs, who fondly recalled the life and sacrifice of the fallen.

On the eve of the Victory day, Tuesday, December 15, an “Art Camp against Extremism” will be held at 5pm; an art installation to pay tribute to Bangabandhu will be unveiled at 6pm. In the evening, sky lanterns will be flown and other festivities observed.

On the 16th, an open film screening, based on the theme of the liberation war, will be arranged at the TSC premises of Dhaka University at 6pm.

The organizers are strictly adhering to the social distancing rules while holding the three-day event, and urging attendees to wear masks.

Previously, DUFS, in association with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, organized a six-day program ‘The IIUSFF Talents 2020’, featuring a script lab, masterclass, film funds, and pitching session.

Due to the ongoing global pandemic, the event was held online from October 25-30. Expert mentors from different continents of the world guided the participants through this process via group meetings and one-to-one sessions.
