Hundreds of thousands of devotees have joined the event to celebrate the teachings of Lalon Fakir
Two-day cultural program, held to observe the 130th death anniversary of Baul legend Fakir Lalon Shah, kicked off today, on October 16.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, in association with UNESCO Dhaka Office is holding the Lalon Fair and arranging an international seminar to pay tribute to one of the most prominent figures of country’s baul tradition, Lalon Shah.
All 64 districts across the country have taken preparations for the occasion. Hundreds of thousands of devotees are expected to join the events and propagate the teachings of Lalon Fakir.
The first day’s cultural activities began with Bauls making their way to Dhanmondi Road-32 to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Baul music, workshops on Lalon’s philosophy, and an international seminar titled Bissho Manobotar Muktite Lalon Dorshon were held at the auditorium of the National Theater of Shilpakala Academy. BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the seminar, and State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid attended as the chief guest.
Tommorow's event will feature rendition of songs by artistes from the academy and Bauls from across the country and more cultural activities.
Lalon passed away on Kartik 1, 1297 - October 17, 1890 - on Bangla calendar. Since then, the festivities include cultural programs and discussion on Lalon's life and work.
