The series is expected to debut on Disney+ in 2021
Marvel will cast Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan in its upcoming Disney+ series Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The series is expected to debut on the streaming service in 2021, reports ComicBook.com.
However, Vellani could make her debut as Ms Marvel ahead of the Ms Marvel series in a title slated to release before it and will likely go on to appear in the Captain Marvel sequel scheduled for 2022, the report said.
The production of the series is expected to begin in 2020 which will introduce the world to Kamala Khan in live-action for the first time after she first appeared on the pages of Captain Marvel comics in 2013, ComicBook said.
Vellani is new to Hollywood, not unlike the character Kamala Khan by comparison to the super hero world.
Captain Marvel #14 first introduced the Kamala Khan character. It was created by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, Willow Wilson, and Adrian Alphona.
"In the comics, Kamala is a teenage girl who learns that she has polymorphing powers, allowing her to 'embiggen' or shrink any parts of her body," ComicBook’s Jenna Anderson said about the popular character.
"Inspired by Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Kamala uses her powers to protect her hometown of Jersey City, and eventually joins the Avengers. The television adaptation will be run by Bisha K Ali, who recently served as a writer for the television reboot of Four Weddings and a Funeral," she said.
She-Hulk casts Tatiana Maslany as MCU’s Jennifer Walters
Tatiana Maslany is set to play Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk in MCU.
The Emmy-winning actress, best known for her acting in Orphan Black, has been tapped to play the titular character in the She-Hulk TV series, the report also said.
The series is set to be released on Disney+.
Director Kat Coiro was hired to direct multiple episodes of the series, while Jessica Gao will lead the writers room and serve as showrunner, it said.
She-Hulk is going to follow Jennifer Walters, who is the cousin of Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk. Jennifer, a lawyer, gets a blood transfusion from Bruce, which ultimately gives her similar powers same at the Hulk, the report further said.
However, Jennifer remains intelligent and in control when she hulks out, unlike most versions of the Hulk
Mark Ruffalo's Hulk in the MCU, known affectionately as Professor Hulk, is in a similar situation to Jennifer.
It has however not been confirmed as to when this She-Hulk series will take place in the MCU timeline, but if it is after the events of Avengers: Endgame, there is a possibility of the Hulk version of Ruffalo making an appearance.
Maslany starred on BBC America's Orphan Black for five seasons. She was nominated for three Emmys and one Golden Globe over the course of the show's five-year run, taking home the Emmy in 2016, before nabbing the role of Jennifer Walters,
Most recently, Maslany starred in HBO's Perry Mason opposite Matthew Rhys, the report further said.
She-Hulk is one of many TV projects in development at Disney+ from Marvel Studios.
WandaVision is the first of these projects expected to be released on the streaming service, arriving later this year.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was originally slated to debut in August, but a shutdown of the production due to Covid-19 changed those plans. Other shows in the works include Ms Marvel, Loki, and Moon Knight, the report concluded.
