Gaal Golpo is a special online story writing competition to motivate young writers across the nation
It has been quite a challenging time for most parts of the world ever since the world has been struck with the Covid-19 pandemic. But it has been specially challenging for the art, entertainment and culture-loving Bangladeshis across the nation where the people’s daily life involve knitting stories on social media platforms. And that is when Bangladesh Art Nation came up with the idea of Gaal Golpo.
Gaal Golpo is a special online story writing competition which was launched with the theme, "Golpo Shajai Moner Canvas-e", powered by Live2web originals,co-hosted Artistic Indoor, the radio partner being Radio Carnival & organized by Bangladesh Art Nation.
The mission of this event was to influence the talented writers of our country to engage in writing practices and to motivate young writers across the nation. The first of its kind virtual story writing competition took place through the social media platform Facebook between July 16 and September 11.
Sadia Khalid Reeti and Mr. Tahmid Ul Islam Nafi were the honourable judges in the event. There were over five hundred submission of stories from all over Bangladesh out of which 53 stories reached the finals.
The winning story: ‘Ekti Nitantoi Paribarik Golpo’ was written by the winner Maliha Tasnim, while the runners up story: "Jara Ube Jaay Ar Jara Theke Jaay" was written by Sayonton Saykat Roy.
The winner was graced with the Champion’s certificate by Bangladesh Art Nation, winner also received a prize money of 5000 Taka with the opportunity to embrace a short film based on her story, sponsored by 29CodeFilms. The runners-up too received his respective certificate and the opportunity to have an animated short film based on his story, sponsored by AbirArtrium.
To place his regard on this occasion and indicate the importance of writing, the Managing Director of Bangladesh Art Nation, Mahir Shahriar Mishan, was quoted, saying: "Gal Golpo is a platform for the art of story-writing and for the stories to flap their wings beyond our imaginations into the world of opportunities.”
The president of Bangladesh Art Nation, Iffat Oishi sent her gratitude to everyone who has helped made this event successful and says, "Writing is a gifted form of art and there have been many famous writers in our region. But recently these days, this form of art is almost endangered and lost due to lack of sufficient appreciation and platforms created for the young writers to exhibit the talents.”
The process had three rounds, designed in a manner to harness the best out of the participants, and the Head of the Event Committee, Maruf Hasan said: “I feel proud to be a part of this noble initiative, we charged no registration fee to hundreds of participants, the competition was absolutely free and I am thankful to each and every person who has worked hard day and night to make it successful till the end.”
“This was a special event for me, not only was I part of the organizing process, I too learnt a great deal from it, and the stories were one word, amazing. I suggest everyone to join our group ‘Artists Community of Bangladesh’ on Facebook where they can find all the stories that were submitted and have a great time reading them” said Riya Tun Nur, one of the core organisers of the Gaal-Golpo project.
If anything else, the young and promising story-writers of our generation are locked into only putting up statuses from their personal profiles and pages on Facebook, so we thought of implementing an idea of bringing all the talent under a platform where they are recognized for their craft, was the opinion of Kamil Al Ashik, another core personnel behind the specific undertaking of this event.
“We work intensively towards our mission and vision, and are strongly determined for the welfare of art, the artists, the art-enthusiasts and all the associated sectors towards one unified goal - for people to see art subjectively, inspiring them to see the effort put on the Art, its beauty and significance in our culture - not the canvas beneath it” said the Vice President Sayed Azmy.
Bangladesh Art Nation aspires in setting a bar for art in our country, to raise awareness and promote the people as well as the platforms that would enrich the art industry of our nation.
