Chadwick Boseman lost a four-year battle with colon cancer at the age of 43. He had become a household name with the unprecedented success of Black Panther (2018). As the news of his untimely demise hit social media, Hollywood remembered a versatile actor who possessed a wealth of untapped possibilities.
Boseman’s family confirmed the news on his Twitter on Friday night that he died with his wife, singer Taylor Simone Ledward, and family by his side. Calling Boseman “a true fighter,” the family said he was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and “battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.”
Angela Bassett, who played Boseman’s mother in Black Panther, shared a range of photos of the two on Instagram.

The true power of @ChadwickBoseman was bigger than anything we saw on screen. From the Black Panther to Jackie Robinson, he inspired generations and showed them they can be anything they want — even super heroes. Jill and I are praying for his loved ones at this difficult time.
