Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise their respective roles as Neo and Trinity
After the remarkable success of the Matrix trilogy, a new film is slated to join the franchise in 2022. Matrix 4 will feature the original cast, who will be joined by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Neil Patrick Harris in undisclosed roles.
Speaking of undisclosed, the premise of the film is yet to be made public. What we do know is that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise their respective roles as Neo and Trinity. Jada Pinkett Smith will also be back as Niobe. Laurence Fishburne's attachment, however, has not been confirmed yet.
Lana Wachowski will helm Matrix 4. She had written and directed the previous matrix films along with her sister Lilly. The duo, jointly known as The Wachowsi Brothers, have collaborated in many other projects like Sense 8, Jupiter Ascending, Speed Racer etc. Lilly and Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) will unfortunately sit this one out.
The film had begun production in San Francisco on February 4, 2020, but was stalled for the pandemic. The coronavirus has also pushed back the film's release date from May 21, 2021 to April 1, 2022.
