On the occasion of the actor's birthday, we have compiled a list of her top 10 films

A four-time Bangladesh National Film Award-winning actor, Jaya Ahsan, was born on July 1. She began her film career with prominent Bangladeshi director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s debut film Bachelor. Jaya’s first venture into Tollywood started with Arindam Sil’s Aborto. In the last ten years, the actor has made a name for herself in both the industries owing to her ageless beauty and exceptional acting capability.

Here is a list of Jaya Ahsan's top 10 films:

 

Guerrilla (2011)

On the night of March 25, 1971, Bilkis Banu loses her husband. In the following days, she refuses to succumb to grief and joins the urban guerrilla movements in Dhaka. Guerrilla won the 2011 National Film Awards in ten categories. 

Dub Satar (2010)

Directed by Nurul Alam Atique, the film revolves around a complicated relationship between a female social worker and a drug addict. An experimental work, captured beautifully by on camera by National Award Winning cinematographer Rashed Zaman, Jaya had at times mentioned this film as one of her personal farourites. 

Khacha (2017)

Based on Hasan Azizul Haque’s book Ekoi Namer Golpo, Khacha revolves around a Brahmin family who decides to move to India from Pakistan on the heels of the 1947 partitionThe film was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Best Foreign language at the Oscars.

City of Love (2016)

Directed by Indranil Roychowdhury, the Indian short film chronicles the marriage of a Hindu girl with a Muslim boy (Ritwik Chakraborty) in Kolkata and their subsequent escape to Syria for a new life.

Robibar  (2019)

After fifteen yeas, Sayani, a law officer in a corporate firm, meets her old lover Asimabha, a career fraud, on a fateful Sunday. National Film Award winning director Atanu Ghosh’s Robibaar won big at the Bengali category of the Critics’ Choice Film Awards 2020. Atanu Ghosh bagged both the Best Director and Best Writing awards.

 

Bishorjan (2017)

The film chronicles a love story between a Bangladeshi widow and Indian businessman. At the 64th National Film Awards 2017, Jaya Ahsan starrer Bishorjan bagged the Best Bengali Film award.

Aborto (2013)

Hailed as a worthy tribute to Satyajit Ray’s memorable characters, Aborto explores the dilemma one faces when tasked with maintaining a balance between his or her personal and professional life. 

Bijoya (2019)

Bijoya is the sequel to Kaushik Ganguly’s National award-winning film Bishorjan. Abir Chattarjee nad Jaya Ahsan play the lead roles.

 

Debi (2018)

The film chronicles the life of Ranu and her strange powers. This is the first silver screen adaptation of Humayun Ahmed's beloved series, Misir Ali. Jaya Ahsan won the Best Actress award at the 2018 Bachsas Awards for her performance.

 

Bini Sutoy (2019)

Directed by Atanu Ghosh, Kajal and Sraboni, two strangers who met at a reality game show audition, tell stories to each other. The film made FIPRESCI-India's list of Top 20 Indian Feature Films of 2019.
