The event will be held online from June 19-20
Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is organizing the 12th International Inter University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF).
As part of this festival, DUFS will observe World Refugee Day on June 20. The event will be held online from June 19-20 on IIUSFF’s official YouTube and Facebook page.
The event will feature a panel discussion and the screening of short films with the purpose of shedding light on the refugee crisis and celebrating the work of university-going filmmakers from all over the world.
The discussion session will be arranged on the theme of ‘"How Art and Media Can Create Empathy among Individuals in Humanitarian Crises".
Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, Shameem Akhtar, Filmmaker and Screenwriter, young filmmaker Mrittika Kamal and a representative from UNHCR will participate in the panel discussion.
Previousy, the official opening of IIUSFF was held online from June 6-7, featuring the screening of award winning and officially selected short films from previous editions of the festival in five slots. A Facebook live discussion session titled IIUSFF Talks on the theme of ‘Filmmaker in conversation with Film Journalist/Critic’ was also arranged, featuring notable Bangladeshi film critic, scholar and journalist Sadia Khalid Reeti along with renowned film-maker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki.
IIUSFF started its journey back in 2007 with the motto ‘Take your camera, frame your dream.’ The goal of IIUSFF has been to provide a platform for university-going students to materialize their cinematic vision, and to celebrate the growing arena of independent filmmakers from all over the world.
This year, with the 12th edition of IIUSFF, this remarkable journey has reached a new height with a submission of a total of 2583 short films from 106 countries.
