A rumour has been making the rounds on social media for the last few days claiming that Chhayanaut is all set to celebrate Pohela Boishakha at Ramna Batamul festival ground
It was reported on April 2 that Chhayanaut, a leading cultural organization in Bangladesh, would not celebrate Pohela Boishakh this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Every year, as dawn breaks, thousands swarm to the Ramna Batamul festival ground to ring in the Bangla New Year. As per tradition, Chhayanaut greets the new year with songs of Pohela Boishakh, poetry recitations, and traditional songs.
However, Chhayanaut announced in early April that the organization would not go forward with its regular programs.
Instead, Bangladesh Television will air a video compilation of previous years’ Pohela Boishakh celebration programs conducted by Chhayanaut at 7.00am on April 14, marking the arrival of the new year.
The program will also be available on Chhayanaut’s official YouTube channel named CHHAYANAUT DIGITAL-PLATFORM and can be aired on various private TV channels as well.
A rumour has been making the rounds on social media for the last few days claiming that Chhayanaut has shifted from its earlier position and is all set to celebrate Pohela Boishakha at Ramna Batamul festival ground.
Chhayanaut has dismissed such rumours and reiterated its commitment to to provide food and other necessities to the poor and the homeless, who are bearing the burnt of the pandemic.
After the Liberation War of Bangladesh, this is only the second time Chhayanaut has cancelled its celebration of Pohela Boishakh.
