The three day National Nazrul Conference 2020 began in Gaibandha on Saturday with a call for initiatives to popularize Nazrul songs and learn his life and works.
Kabi Nazrul Institute (KNI), Dhaka - under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs - has arranged the conference in cooperation with district administration, said an official of the District Collectorate Building.
BSS reports that in the morning around 10am, a grand and colorful rally was brought out from the Poura Park and eventually ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the town.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker, Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, formally inaugurated the rally as chief guest.
Later, a discussion was also held at Poura Shaheed Minar on the topic Independence of Bangali: Nazrul and Bangabandhu, with Deputy Commissioner Abdul Matin presiding over the event.
Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as chief guest, and Police Superintendent Muhammad Towhidul Islam and Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Abu Bakar Siddique were present as special guests.
Poet Muhammad Nurul Huda, former executive director of KNI, former Professor of the Bangla Department of Joypurhat Government College, Samir Kumar Sarker, and former Vice Principal of Sadullapur Government College, Jahurul Qaiyum, were discussants.
Earlier, Secretary and Project Director of KNI, Md Abdur Rahim, made a welcome speech, and said initiatives have been taken to inspire the young generation to find out more about the life and works of Nazrul through the conference.
The discussants said poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was a symbol of revolution and hope against fascism and oppression, and his poetry and revolutionary songs and nationalist activism earned him the title of “Bidrohi Kobi (Rebel Poet)."
Kazi Nazrul Islam was a writer, poet, lyricist, revolutionary, musician, and philosopher, they said, adding that he composed around 4,000 songs. And his revolutionary songs played an important role during the Liberation War.
A documentary film, Nazrul Jibon Porikroma, was also screened, arranged by the District Information Office.
Then, a cultural function was also held at the venue. Artistes of KNI and local singers rendered songs and performed dances to entertain all.
A large number of people from all walks of life including officials, socio-cultural personalities, singers, and media men took part in the programs.
Nazrul Conference also inaugurated in Joypurhat
Our Joypurhat correspondent reports that a three day National Nazrul Conference also began in Joypurhat on Saturday. Member of Parliament from Joypurhat-1, Shamsul Alam Dudu, inaugurated the event at the Shaheed Dr Abul Kashem field.
After the inauguration a colourful rally began from the inauguration site and ended at the district Shilpakala Academy auditorium. A discussion session was held at the auditorium, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner of Joypurhat, Mohammad Jakir Hossain.
The welcome remarks were given by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Joypurhat, Md Maniruzzaman. Associate Professor at the Bangla Department of Bogura Government Azizul Haque College, Dr Mohammad Haidar, gave the keynote speech on Nazrul in our national consciousness.
Assistant Professor of Joypurhat Government College, Md Shahidul Islam, and advocate Momin Ahmed Chowdhury, gave speeches on the life of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Speeches were also given by Zilla Parishad Chairman Arifur Rahman Rocket, Joypurhat Sadar Upazilla Parishad's Chairman, SM Solaiman Ali, and many other dignified guests. The discussion was moderated by Joypurhat Sadar Upazilla's Executive Officer Milton Chandra Ray.
Kabi Nazrul Institute organized this event with every kind of support from the district administration.
This three day conference will feature further discussions on the life of Nazrul, recitation of his poetry, music, dance, documentary screenings, and a book fair. Renowned Nazrul sangeet singers will also perform at this conference.
