Various sources from the Ministry of Information previously informed the press that the role of Bangabandhu would be played by a Bangladeshi actor
The governments of Bangladesh and India are jointly producing a feature film based on the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It is now being reported to the press that popular Bangladeshi actor Arifin Shuvoo has been cast to play Bangabandhu. Shuvoo supposedly flew to Mumbai to sign the contracts on Monday.
Acclaimed film-maker Shyam Benegal is all set to direct this project. However, when Bangla Tribune contacted the director for a comment regarding the casting of Shuvoo, he refused to confirm anything.
He said: "I should not be the one to disclose any new details about the film. I am sure the government of Bangladesh will make an official announcement soon. Let us wait for that."
Veteran actor Dilara Zaman was cast to play the role of Bangabandhu's mother Saira Banu during the first week of February. Fazlur Rahman Babu and Tauquir Ahmed also agreed to join the cast to portray Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad and Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy respectively.
Various sources from the Ministry of Information previously informed the press that the role of Bangabandhu would be played by a Bangladeshi actor. Pia Benegal as costume designer, Shama Zaidi and Atul Tiwari as screenwriters, and Dayal Nihalani as assistant director, have already been recruited.
Although Bangabandhu's biopic is being made in Bangla, Hindi subtitles will be provided. The film on Bangabandhu is scheduled to be released by March 17, 2021, marking his birth centenary.
