'Alpha' wins the Hiralal Sen Padak

Amar Bhashar Cholochitro, organized by Dhaka University Film Society is an annual festival, held at the TSC premises of Dhaka University, which pays tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement and celebrates Bangla Cinema

Veteran film-maker Nasiruddin Yousuff's third film Alpha bagged the Hiralal Sen Award today, February 13, at the nineteenth "Amar Bhashar Cholochitri 1426".

Amar Bhashar Cholochitro, organized by Dhaka University Film Society is an annual festival, held at the TSC premises of Dhaka University, which pays tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement and celebrates Bangla Cinema. As per the tradition of the last four years, on the final day of the festival, in fond memory of the Indian subcontinent's first film director, Hiralal Sen, a film from previous year - deemed best by esteemed judges- is awarded the Hiralal Sen Padak.

The honourable Bangladesh Minister of Information Hasan Mahmud, and Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman were both present at the award giving ceremony. The ceremony was followed by the screening of Kathbirali at 7 pm.

Alpha tells the story of a rickshaw painter who chooses to tackle the prevailing disharmony in our society in his own way. Alamgir Kabir, Doyel Mash and ATM Shamsuzzaman played the lead roles. Alpha was Bangladesh' submission to the 92nd Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film. 

Noor Imran Mithu’s directorial debut Komola Rocket was awarded last year’s Hiralal Sen Padak.

"Amar Bhashar Cholochitro" 1426 kicked off on Sunday, February 9 and concluded today, February 13.
