A cartoon exhibition by Dr Sajid Bin Doza Bonny, titled People of many colors, was inaugurated at 5:30pm on Friday , at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka. Eminent cartoonist and the Editor of Unmad magazine Ahsan Habib was the chief guest on the occasion.
According to a press release from Alliance Française, Doza’s cartoons brings forward the many faces he encounters in the streets, footpaths, lanes, and byroads of this dense mega city of Dhaka. Doza attempts to familiarize these faces - sometimes with a hint of satire.
Passing through the streets, footpaths, lanes, and byroads of the dense megacity of Dhaka, one can see uncountable faces. All these faces, albeit anonymous at first glance, have their own identities and front uncountable entities who perform duties and roles as social units. With urbanization and weakening interpersonal ties, anonymity of these faces and the nescience of their personhood are growing and people have become desensitized.
Doza employ what he calls "cultural cartooning" to alter this unknowingness into knowingness. The faces become colourful with their surrounding elements and relatable personas transpire. People from both old and new generation can engage with these cartoons and Doza believes they will feel better for it.
The exhibition is open to all till December 31, 2019. The visiting hours are 3pm to 9pm from Monday to Thursday. Only on Fridays and Saturdays the exhibition will be open at two different timings; from 9am to 12pm and 5pm to 8pm. The exhibition closes on Sunday.
