Selim Al Deen Utsav to begin on Friday

The festival will conclude on November 3 with the closing play Secret of History by Bunon Theatre, Savar

Selim Al Deen Utsav and the 8th National Conference of Bangladesh Gram Theatre will take place from November 1-3 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. 

State Minister of Cultural Affairs KM Khalid will inaugurate the program at 10:30am on Friday. Thespian and film director Nasiruddin Yousuff Bachchu will preside over the ceremony. The ceremony will be followed by an award giving ceremony and the inaugural session of the conference. 

In the evening, Selim Al Deen’s Nimojjon will be staged at 7:30 pm under the direction of Khandakar Rakibul Hoq, and performed by Bangla Theatre, Faridpur.  On November 2, Chaka, another famous play written by Selim Al Deen, will be staged at the National Theatre at 6:30pm. 

The drama will be directed by Bibhash Ray and performed by Ingit Theatre, Natore. Shantinagar Theatre from Jaipurhat will perform Eti Potromita, a third play at 7:30pm written by the legendary theatre personality. 

The play will be directed by Debashish Ghosh. The festival will conclude on November 3 with the closing play Secret of History by Bunon Theatre, Savar.

Selim Al Deen was the founder chairperson of the Department of Drama and Dramatics at Jahangirnagar University. He was also one of the founding members of Dhaka Theatre. He won the Ekushey Padak in 2007 and Bangla Academy Award in 1984, among other notable accolades. He died in 2008.
