A solo painting exhibition titled Impression of Surroundings 5, by artist Mohd Mohiuddin Ahmed, was inaugurated at capital’s La Galerie ofAlliance Française de Dhaka on Tuesday. The exhibition will be open to all until October 26.
Eminent artist Professor Hamiduzzaman was the chief guest for the event. Md Emdadul Hoque, additional secretary (retd) of the Ministry of Finance, also attended the opening ceremony as the special guest.
Mohiuddin Ahmed was born in Banimardon, Muladi, Barisal in 1976 and has long been viewed as an art activist of Dhaka. He has been popular for having his style of painting. He finished his MFA from the University of Development Alternative (UODA) in 2004.
In this exhibition he will showcase his new works from his recent painting series.
The artist said in a recent press statement: “I am influenced by my own surroundings and the visible world; these impinge my conscious and subconscious mind. And with time and deliberation, an interpretation that I cannot help interpreting, emerges. The paintings in this exhibition are thus the fruitage of my surroundings. It is said that life is no bed of roses; However, I think, like the texture of the corrugated paper, life has its ups and downs. It has its beautiful moments, and of course its bumps that may crash and burn life itself. That nuanced human condition is what I try to put forth in my paintings.
“My paintings do not jump out and shout a boilerplate message to every observer. The observer having his or her own idiosyncratic rubric of life interprets my paintings in his or her own way — such is the transcending way of abstract art,” added Mohiuddin.
The exhibition will be open to all from Monday to Thursday from 3:00pm to 9:00pm. On Friday and Saturday, the exhibition will remain open from 9:00am to12:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm respectively, and closed on Sunday.
