Abony wins Mrs Bangladesh 2019 title

Rabeya Sultana Robi and Maati Siddiqui won the first and second runners-up title, respectively

Social activist and model Munjarin Mahbub Abony won the Mrs World Bangladesh 2019 title on Saturday. She will represent Bangladesh in the Mrs World final event in Las Vegas, US on December 6.

This was the first beauty pageant of its kind in Bangladesh, where all the participants were married women. Abony battled it out with nine other contestants in the final round to claim the crown, following the grand finale held at Gulshan Club on Saturday night.

The winner walked off with a cash prize of Tk1 lakh. 

Rabeya Sultana Robi and Maati Siddiqui became the first and second runners-up, respectively. More than 2000 married women signed up for the title and crown.

Abony told the press that she and her family are very excited about the win, and it would be a huge honour for her to represent Bangladesh in Las Vegas.

Afrin Anis Rahman, Suma Nusrat, Munia, Abafa Dilsha, Rumana, Sanjida, Rabeya and Samantha were the other participants who took part in the final round.

Popular actor Shahidul Alam Sachchu, elocutionist Shimul Mustapha, entrepreneur Sangeeta Khan, beauty expert Saleha Sarwar, dermatologist Tauhida Rahman and Youth Bangla Cultural Forum President Muna Chowdhury were present during the grand finale.

Apurbo Abdul Latif, head of the beauty pageant’s organizing body, told the press that no such event for talented married women was ever held before in Bangladesh. He also said that the event was aimed at women empowerment and creating awareness among women in order to take them one step further.

Zulhaj Zubair, one of the jury members of the pageant, told Dhaka Tribune's Showtime: "All the contestants were fantabulous. We were looking for confidence and spark of womanhood  in them."
