Bangladesh Dance Artist's Association is currently organizing the National Dance Competition 2019, which officially began from September 10. The selection rounds for Dhaka division were conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's National Art Gallery plaza.

The preliminary selection rounds, which were conducted in every district, began on Sunday. The two-day district rounds began at 3pm, from there the candidates for the divisional rounds were selected. The national rounds, which will comprise of winners from the divisional rounds, will be held on October 24-26 at Shilpakala's Music, Dance, and Recitation building.

Popular Bangladeshi dance artiste, actor and model Munni Salma, is both in the organizing committee, and the jury of the competition. She told the Dhaka Tribune Showtime: "The excitement of the participants is very noteworthy. When the divisional round for Dhaka took place in Shilpakala Academy of Segun Bagicha, the students had to perform on the foyer of the second floor in the art gallery plaza. It was quite hot in there, but all the participants waited patiently for their turn, and performed their hearts out. We cannot wait for the final rounds to begin in October."

The National Dance Competition is held in different categories of age, and dance forms. The age categories are divided into three sections; 6-9 year olds make up Ka section, 9-12 years make Kha section, and 12-30 are in the Ga section. Among the topics or dance forms categories in the competition there is classical, folk, creative, and patriotic category. Furthermore classical in itself is divided into four sub-categories, which are bharatnatyam, kathak, monipuri, and odissi.

The National Dance Competition was first held in 2013, and ever since it has been annually organized by Bangladesh Dance Artist’s Association.
