Asaduzzaman Noor to receive Syed Mohidul Islam Padak

The festival will also give out the Mancha Bandhu award to a number of theatre personalities

Theatre troupe Byatikrom Nattya Goshthi is set to honour renowned Bangladeshi actor, politician, activist and current MP Asaduzzaman Noor with the prestigious Syed Mohidul Islam Padak. 

The award ceremony will take place at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on the opening day of a five-day-long theatre festival, starting today and ending on September 18.

The festival will also give out the Mancha Bandhu award to a number of theatre personalities, including Tonima Hamid, Sujit Saha, Shubhobroto Dey, Mir Zahid, and Shadhona Ahmed. The Jugol (Duo) award will be given to Mosharraf Karim and Robena Reza; Ali Haider and Samina Luthfa Nitra; Moithili Guho and Shimanta Maitra, Masud Sumon and Mumu Masud; Abhijit Sengupta and Dipta Rakkhit.

The event is a tribute to the troupe's founder and eminent stage actor, director and playwright Syed Mohidul Islam, to mark his 15th death anniversary. 

The five-day event will also include the staging of plays, as well as discussions on the life and work of the late thespian. 

The plays to be staged during the festival are Draupadi Parampara by  Theatre (September 14); Ekti Premer Golpo by Jalpaiguri’s Onami Theatre Centre, India (September 15);  Takkhak by Byatikrom Nattya Goshthi (September 17); and Girgiti by Granthik Nattya Goshti (September 18).
