Miss Universe Bangladesh officially launches for the first time

Sushmita Sen to crown winner of Miss Universe Bangladesh

Bangladesh is all set to participate in the 68th edition of the Miss Universe beauty pageant, a first for this country. At a press conference held on Saturday at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka Hotel, the team behind Miss Universe Bangladesh also announced to raucous applause, Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen will be present as one of the judges in the competition.

Sushmita Sen was given the tiara of Miss Universe in 1994, and she will be crowning the winner of the Bangladesh segment of the competition. 

The winner of the Bangladesh segment, who will be referred to as Miss Universe Bangladesh, will participate in the main segment of the competition, which is to be held in South Korea in December of this year. Meanwhile, the grand finale of Miss Universe Bangladesh competition will take place on October 23 in Dhaka. 

Chairman of Miss Universe Bangladesh, Rizwan Bin Farouq said at the press conference: "Miss Universe Bangladesh will feature some of the most beautiful, intelligent, elegant, talented, and confident women of our country. The motto of Miss Universe is 'confidently beautiful.' This will be the platform where confident Bangladeshi women will face the challenge of the world, and serve humanity through various social works. 

"The violence against women is a burning issue in our country, and through this initiative it will be addressed all across the country to increase awareness about it," Rizwan added.

Meanwhile, the launch internet post for Miss Universe Bangladesh had been seen 1.6 million times, and 8,000 Bangladeshi women from all over the country had  registered for the competition online. The registration process will conclude on September 14. Unmarried women, who are between the age of 18 to 28, will be able to participate in the competition.

The competition in Bangladesh will air on the popular satellite channel RTV.

Flora Bank has acquired the title sponsorship of the competition this year. The Managing Director of Flora Bank, Mustafa Rafiqul Islam said: "It is a great honour to be a part of this prestigious event. Our main objective is to empower women, and fight violence against them through Miss Universe Bangladesh."
