Kamal Lohani, Farid Uddin Ahmed, Md Jami Al Shafi to receive Shaheed Altaf Mahmud award

Since 2005, Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation has been organizing the award in memoriam of noted martyred intellectual and music composer Altaf Mahmud

Ekushey Padak winning veteran journalist, Kamal Lohani and architects Farid U Ahmed and Jami Al Shafi who designed the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial will be awarded with the prestigious Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Padak 2019 for their outstanding contribution to their respective fields. 

The award giving ceremony will be held at the Music and Dance auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) tomorrow. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid will be present on the occasion as a special guest. 

Since 2005, Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation has been organizing the award in memoriam of noted martyred intellectual and music composer Altaf Mahmud. This award has been given to many veteran cultural personalities. 

Altaf Mahmud (December 23, 1933– September, 1971) was a musician, cultural activist and martyred freedom fighter of the Liberation War, who In 1969, composed the music for Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano in Zahir Raihan’s film Jibon Theke Neya. Altaf Mahmud was awarded Ekushey Padak (posthumous)  in 1977.

He was given the award for his contribution to Bengali culture and in the Bangladesh Liberation War. In 2004, he was awarded an Independence Day Award for his special contribution to Bengali culture.
