A day-long program was organized at JU to celebrate his birth anniversary
The 70th birth anniversary of late legendary dramatist and theoretician Selim Al Deen was celebrated on Sunday at Jahangirnagar University (JU).
Selim Al Deen was the founder of the Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University. The department organised a day-long program including a procession, seminar, photography exhibition and others.
In the morning, the students and teachers of the drama and dramatics department brought out a colourful procession from the old arts building, which was inaugurated by JU pro-vice chancellor Professor Nurul Alam as the chief guest. JU treasurer Professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq was present on the occasion as a special guest.
Besides the teachers and students of JU, different theatre troupes including, Dhaka Theatre, Bangladesh Gram Theatre, Swapnadal, Selim Al Deen Foundation, Desh Bangla Natyadal, Bunan Theatre, Taluknagar Theatre, JU Teacher-Student Centre and others attended the celebration programs.
A seminar titled Kaler Jatray Selim Al Deen was held at the old arts building. Chaired by former pro-vice chancellor of JU Professor Afsar Ahmed, thespian Nasiruddin Yousuff presented the keynote paper during the seminar.
A documentary film titled, Manuser Natok, Natoker Manus was screened at the Theater Lab of the drama and dramatics department of the university.
