Cast for Mira Nair’s ‘A Suitable Boy’ announced

Adapted by Andrew Davies (Pride and Prejudice, War & Peace, Les Misérables), internationally acclaimed director Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake, Queen of Katwe) will direct the series.

The cast of six-part BBC One drama, A Suitable Boy has been announced, reports BBC. The series is an adaptation of Vikram Seth’s 1993 eponymous novel.

Adapted by Andrew Davies (Pride and Prejudice, War & Peace, Les Misérables), internationally acclaimed director Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake, Queen of Katwe) will direct the series.

Produced by Lookout Point, the first screen adaptation of A Suitable Boy will shortly begin filming in India.

The cast of the drama includes Ishaan Khatter (Beyond the Clouds, Dhadak) and Indian screen legend Tabu (The Namesake, Life of Pi, Andhadhun) alongside rising star Tanya Maniktala in the central role as Lata.

The story of A Suitable Boy centres around spirited university student Lata (Tanya Maniktala) in North India in 1951, as the country is carving its own identity as an independent nation and is about to go to the polls for its first general election. 

Lata’s mother is determined to find her a husband - a suitable boy - but Lata is torn between family duty and the excitement of romance, as she embarks on an epic journey of love and self-discovery.
