Bangladeshi heavy metal band Trainwreck rocked the audience of  Wacken Open Air, an open-air heavy metal music festival in Germany, on August 1. An excerpt of their performance was recently revealed in a recent video interview by Deutsche Welle.

The band shared the stage with legendary metal bands like Slayer, Kiss, Bullet for my Valentine, Testament, Parkway Drive, Cradle of Filth, and many more at Wacken Open Air, the biggest metal music festival in the world.

After getting off the stage Trainwreck members told DW: “We were nervous before getting on stage but as soon as we saw that crowd, it was amazing. Thank you everyone. This was a dream come true. Thank you everyone from Bangladesh.

“Anyone who listens to metal in Bangladesh dreams that one day they will go and visit this place (Wacken). And it’s a big thing we are here to play. It’s an honour.”

The band won Bangalore Open Air 2019, a regional competition to perform at Wacken. They performed on February 9 at the Bangalore event where other participating countries were India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Trainwreck features Abir Ahmed Shuvo on vocals, A K Rahul and Ekram Wasi on guitars, Habibullah Farhan on bass.

Earlier, the band won the first Wacken Metal Battle: Bangladesh chapter, in December 2018. The selection process of the battle was very competitive.

Approximately 77 bands sent their demos to the Bangalore Open Air committee from which 5 bands were selected.

Later, the five bands performed in the metal battle with their original numbers in front of a jury panel and a crowd of metalheads. Each band performed for 30 minutes.

As a first local heavy metal band, Trainwreck started a crowdfunding movement in our country. Their unique crowdfunding campaign funded the band to attend and perform in Wacken.

Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) takes place annually in summer in the village of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany, 80 kilometres northwest of Hamburg. Each year more than 100,000 metalheads from all over the world attend the festival.
