Rabindranath Tagore’s 158th birth anniversary fell on May 8, and Nazrul’s 120th birth anniversary was on May 25
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will celebrate the birth anniversaries of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam through a special program after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Rabindranath Tagore’s 158th birth anniversary fell on May 8, and Nazrul’s 120th birth anniversary was on May 25.
Shilpakala Academy officials said they did not organize any programs on those dates because of Ramadan and will observe the occasions after Eid.
Music, Dance and Recitation Department's Director Soharab Hossain said: “During Ramadan, it is difficult to get the required artistes and audiences as they show reluctance to participate and attend programs. We have plans to celebrate the occasions through a big and befitting function after Eid.”
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs, however, had arranged programs marking the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at the National Theatre Hall of Shilpakala on May 8. The birth anniversary of Nazrul Islam was also celebrated on May 25 at Trishal, Mymensingh.
