As a human being, I felt ashamed of myself to think of what we have done to this planet, and how we have made Mother Nature vengeful with our own misdeeds

Nature documentary “Our Planet” captivates the exquisiteness of planet Earth through cinematic language. The first season of the British series was released on Netflix on April 5. The beautifully made documentary series has a haunting message for the human race.

I got fully submerged into the beauty of nature and variety of life on earth while watching the show. However, in every scene, the show depicts the reasons behind the destruction of nature.

As a human being, I felt ashamed of myself to think of what we have done to this planet, and how we have made Mother Nature vengeful with our own misdeeds.

Each episode is narrated by Sir David Attenborough, whose heavy, deep voice is synonymous with wildlife films.

Produced by Silverback Films, the high-budget eight part nature documentary was filmed in 50 countries in over a period of four years. More than 600 crew members were involved in the production.

Roger Horrocks directed the cinematography of the series. I haven’t seen such beautiful cinematography and camera work for such a long time. Many trendy camera works and angles, including long shots, extreme close-ups and bird’s-eye views, have been redefined through this show because of the stunning way the shots were used.

On-location sound, background score and wonderful narration make the show a perfect one.

Bisons will become extinct for climate change | Netflix

Focusing on the breathtaking diversity of habitats around the world, including the Arctic wilderness, the deep sea, the vast landscapes of Africa, and the diverse jungles of South America, the series informs us about so many almost extinct animals, fishes and birds.

The first episode, “One Planet", captures the Earth’s diversity -- from seabirds carpet-bombing the ocean to wildebeests eluding the wild dogs of the Serengeti.

My favourite episode of the show is the second one, “Frozen World”. The scenes of penguin colonies and baby penguins made me cry. I really wish that these beautiful creatures will never go extinct from this world.  The episode also shows polar bears, walruses and seals.

Rare footage of preening bird-dancing is captured in “Jungles”. The third episode also depicts the circle of life of various species in the rainforests.

“Fresh water” is a very important chapter of the series, since it portrays the alarming situation of the scarcity of fresh water around the world.

"From Deserts to Grasslands" follow desert animals, bisons and caterpillars. "Coastal Seas," "The High Seas" and "Forests" are also great episodes, and complement the show.

“Our Planet” reminds us that climate change is real and it is about time we take steps to mitigate it in order to save our own existence. Otherwise, it will be a matter of time before humans will become extinct, just like the wildlife. Mother Nature will take her revenge on the human race sooner or later.

I give the nature documentary 4.5 stars out of 5.
