Veteran actor Maya Ghosh no more

Maya Ghosh was first diagnosed with cancer in 2000 and was treated at Saroj Gupta Cancer Hospital in Kolkata in 2001

Popular Bangladeshi theatre, television and film actor Maya Ghosh, 70, passed away at a private hospital in Jessore at 9am on Sunday. The news of her death was confirmed by her eldest son, Deepak Ghosh.

Deepak also told the press that his mother was fighting cancer and was hospitalized for a very long time. Her last rites will take place at Nilganj Crematorium in Jessore.

Maya Ghosh was first diagnosed with cancer in 2000. She was then treated at Saroj Gupta Cancer Hospital in Kolkata in 2001. Her health condition had improved by 2009.

But another cancer was found in her body in October 2018. She was taken back to Saroj Gupta Cancer Hospital in January this year.

Her condition kept deteriorating and her family was forced to bring her back home to Jessore on April 15. She was admitted to a private hospital called Queen's Hospital in Jessore.

Maya Ghosh was born in Protapkati village of Monirampur upazila in Jessore on December 31, 1949.

She had an influential presence in theatre, television and films. Her silver screen debut came with the 1981 film, “Patal Bijoy.”

Her last screen presence was in popular 2016 ATN Bangla daily soap named “DB.”
