Following the meeting, the prime minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters that the prime minister, and Shyam, discussed preparations for an upcoming  Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman biopic

Popular Indian film director and screenwriter Shyam Benegal visited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban on Wednesday.

Following the meeting, the prime minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters that the prime minister, and Shyam, discussed preparations for an upcoming  Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman biopic.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, the prime minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gower Rizvi, Sheikh Rehana's son Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hassan, Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das, and renowned actors— Pijush Bandopadhay and Alamgir—were present at the meeting, among others.

Shyam Benegal will direct the joint production of the governments of Bangladesh and India.

In 2017, the agreement to produce the biopic was signed, along with a documentary on the Liberation War.

Work on the biopic of Bangabandhu should be complete by 2021, and the film is to be released by March 17, 2021 to mark his birth centenary.

A 19-member committee has been formed with renowned people, from Bangladesh and India, to make the biopic. Additional Secretary of the Information Ministry Ajharul Haque is leading the Bangladesh side in the committee.
