Chester Bennington’s lyrics changed the way we feel about rock music

Every rock music lover, who grew up listening to Linkin Park in their teen years, knows how much his lyrics mean to them

Had he been alive, Chester Bennington would have celebrated his 43rd birthday today.

Every rock music lover, who grew up listening to Linkin Park in their teen years, knows how much his lyrics mean to them. His lyrics transformed raw emotions into solid rock music, his songs still inspiring generation after generation.

His songs will forever be contemporary, since his songs talk about pain and how to overcome it.  His voice was often  described as “high-pitched and “emotional.” With his band mate, Mike Shinoda, Chester wrote most of the lyrics, and the two of them incorporated rap style singing in the background with heavy rock music.

Their style introduced a new style in rock music. Through his songs Chester taught us how we can overcome our pain and rage against injustice while keep moving forward in life. For example, in “Leave out all the rest” he said: “I've never been perfect, but neither have you.”

Every person at some point in their life can relate to one of their best songs, “Numb.” The first few lines of the song are: “I'm tired of being what you want me to be,/Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface/ I don't know what you're expecting of me/Put under the pressure of walking in your shoe.”

In 2000, Linkin Park released their debut album “Hybrid Theory.” Every song of this album was based on interpretations of universal feelings, emotions, and personal experiences. Those lyrics deal with physical and substance abuse, heartbreak and anger.

“Papercut” from this album is one of the best songs in the history of rock music.  From “Crawling,” we learn how to deal with our inner demons and find peace.

“Crawling in my skin/These wounds they will not heal.”

Linkin Park and Chester created perfect music for the youth in the past 19 years. Their music taught fans how to deal with negativity in life, leave depression behind, and we’re completely thankful to them for that.

Chester’s fans were lucky to have his music and forget about their depressions and battles. Alas, at the end of the day, Chester didn’t have a rock star in his life to inspire him to continue life.
