The vibrant tones of the teaser promise a range of exciting visuals of a nomadic culture we hardly see on Bangladeshi screens

A scrupulously dressed Ferdous Ahmed puts an anklet on a girl sitting on a trampoline at the centre of a gaudy circus. A menacing Shatabdi Wadud swings a sword. Equally ominous looking ABM Sumon and Tauquir Ahmed take their shades off in consecutive shots. Finally, the centre of attraction of the circus, Beauty (Jaya Ahsan), descends and we get a glimpse of the protagonist in this mysterious teaser of Mahmud Didar’s debut film “Beauty Circus.”

Since the release of the teaser and the first poster of “Beauty Circus” on February 28, the government funded feature film has garnered much interest among film lovers. However, as Ramadan is not too far away, the release date of the film is likely to be pushed back.

Director Didar told the Dhaka Tribune: “We could release the film on Pohela Baishakh. But Ramadan would be too near and no one wants their film to run for only a couple of weeks at the theatres.” He said the film is likely to be released on Eid or later.

The director shared bits and pieces of the story and characters of this Impress Telefilm production.

Beauty is the heart of a circus that attracts people from far flung villages. Everyone huddles up to see her tricks, her moves, and above all, her beauty. Tauquir plays the organizer of the circus who is a well-respected man. Feudal landlord Ferdous and shady smuggler Sumon fall for this exquisite circus actor and compete for her love. Shatabdi plays the antagonist who will go to great lengths to drive this enormously popular circus away from his territory. But Beauty’s spirit is not easy to break.

“Beauty Circus” tells the story of a strong-willed woman navigating a corrupt man’s world. The vibrant tones of the teaser promise a range of exciting visuals of a nomadic culture we hardly see on Bangladeshi screens.
