A nine-day-long Sultan fair will begin in Narail today (March 3) to commemorate renowned Bangladeshi painter SM Sultan’s 94th birth anniversary. The fair is being held at the Sultan Mancha in Narail’s Victoria College and will run till March 11.
The fair is scheduled to be inaugurated by Lokman Hossain Mia, the district commissioner of Khulna. The fair will host more than a hundred stalls and food carts. Apart from cultural programs, a painting exhibition, rural games and sports, and seminars on notable people of Narail will be held during the nine-day-long fair organized by the SM Sultan Foundation and local authorities.
Anjuman Ara, deputy commissioner of Narail, informed the press that all necessary steps have been taken for the fair. She also said that each year they are expanding the fair to turn it into a national event.
Sultan was born in Machimdia village in Narail on August 10, 1923. To avoid the monsoon season in August, the local authorities have been organizing the fair for the past couple of years during the winter.
