Tik Tok shut down

Along with this app, 15,636 adult websites and 2,235 gambling websites have been shut down to date

Video-sharing app Tik Tok has been shut down.Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar announced the news on Monday in a Facebook post on his verified account.

There has been a lot of criticism about Tik Tok as it helps make obscene videos associated with popular movie songs or dialogues. Many people believe the app is spreading pornographic content and videos, giving rise to an ill mentality.

Along with this app, 15,636 adult websites and 2,235 gambling websites have been shut down to date.

In his Facebook post, Jabbar wrote: "I found 15,636 porn and 2,235 gaming sites, including Tik Tok and Bigo, all of them are now locked. Joy Bangla. Many thanks to my colleagues for helping.”

According to Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) President Aminul Hakim, following the directive of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), more than 4,000 sites have been shut in the last six weeks. The BTRC ordered the closure of 176 more gambling sites on Sunday.

According to International Internet Gateway (IIG) operators, currently in Bangladesh, 1,100 GB bandwidth is being used per second. If the porn sites are shut down, the number of regular users will decrease, which will also save internet bandwidth.
