Bengal postpones Classical Music Festival

Preparations are not complete, the organizers say

Update : 24 Oct 2018, 07:34 PM

This year’s Bengal Classical Music Festival, an annual event that usually takes place in Dhaka in the last week of November, has been postponed to February next year.

The event has been held every year since 2012, however, last year it was pushed back due to complications with the venue, and held in the last week of December.

Instead of the usual venue of Bangladesh Army Stadium in Dhaka’s Banani, the event was held last year in Dhanmondi’s Abahoni Playground.

Managing Director of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Chowdhury told Dhaka Tribune Showtime: “The news you heard was right. We initially had plans to organize it between November 22 and 26. However, after considering everything that is required for organizing this festival, we decided to postpone it till next year.”

When asked the reason for this postponement, Luva replied: “Our preparation for the festival we want to organize was not complete. By the time it was, the artistes who were to perform became busy.”

“If everything goes according to plan, we want to organize the seventh edition of this event in the beginning of February 2019. Just as always we are hoping to have Bangladesh Army Stadium as the venue,” Luva added.
