“Chaalbaaz,” starring Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan, is running successfully in 105 theatres across Bangladesh since its release on April 27. The Indian film has been imported to Bangladesh by NU Traders, under the South Asian Free Trade Area (Safta) agreement. The film has entered a successful second week adding 12 more cinema halls to its list. Only Shyamoli cinema hall dropped the film on its second week to screen Hollywood blockbuster “Avengers: Infinity War.” Still, the film, directed by Joydeep Mukherjee and produced by Eskay Movies, is running well in 116 theatres across the nation.
Most of Dhaka’s major theatres including Balaka, Modhumita and Jonaki went housefull on its first week. There were incidents of blacking tickets and selling them at almost the double price. The audience rate dropped in the second week due to bad weather, but the hall owners are happy with the generous amount of ticket sales.
The cinema hall owners told the press that they want to run the film up until the start of Ramadan as it is doing such great business. The hall owners are also worried if they can run it that long, as hit films usually get uploaded on YouTube within a week or two nowadays due to piracy. If that does not happen they will run “Chaalbaaz” as long as possible. The film starring Shakib Khan alongside popular Kolkata filmstar Subhasree Ganguly was first released in Kolkata. The film also stars Rajatava Dutta, Sagnik, Joydeep Mukherjee, Syed Hasan Imam, and many others.
