Jisshu Sengupta urges Jaya to bring ‘Debi’ to India

Popular Indian film actor, producer and television presenter Jisshu Sengupta recently requested Jaya Ahsan to bring her upcoming film “Debi” to India. He made the request in a recent promotional campaign video shared on the official Facebook page of the film’s distributor, Jaaz Multimedia.  In the video, the actor said that he loved the teaser of “Debi,” starring Jaya Ahsan, which is also her debut film as a producer. He also talked about how the film is based on the famous fictional character “Misir Ali.” He then hoped that the viewers in Bangladesh will enjoy the film and also requested Jaya to bring this film for distribution in India so that the Indian audience can also enjoy “Debi.” Although Jaya did not say anything about whether the film will be released in India or not, she commented on the post: “Thank you #JishuSengupta for showering love on #Debi.” Moreover, Jaaz Multimedia also released a brand new poster of the film on their official Facebook page, with the caption: “Introducing Nilu of Debi.” The surrealistic poster shows Sabnam Faria, who plays the character of Nilu in the film, cracking out through the shell of Ranu, played by Jaya Ahsan. The post is captioned: “The relation between Ranu and Nilu might have been as simple as any other tenant-landlord relation. But the two women of close age have an ancient spirit’s presence between them thus creating an unearthly bond.” Anam Biswas’ feature film “Debi,” based on famous Bangladeshi writer Humayun Ahmed’s novel of the same title from his popular “Misir Ali” series, released its first official two-minute long teaser on Jaaz Multimedia’s official YouTube channel on April 15. Since its launch, the teaser has been widely shared over social media platforms and viewed more than 250,000 times. The huge Misir Ali fan base of the nation is hyped about the film.

The film has already created controversies as Humayun Ahmed’s son Nuhash Humayun and daughter Sheila Ahmed have already publicly claimed via Facebook that the creators of the film did not take permission for this adaptation from their father’s novel from each of his children and claimed that to be illegal. These allegations have created a buzz in the social media space of the country. Apart from Jaya and Sabnam, the film “Debi” stars Chanchal Chowdhury, along with Iresh Zaker, Animesh Aich and others. The film’s theatrical release dates are yet to be announced.
