Khilkhil Kazi: Nazrul’s songs, poetry inspired freedom fighters
A three-day National Nazrul Symposium has been organized in Nilphamari to spread the philosophy and celebrate the works of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Nazrul’s grand daughter Khilkhil Kazi inaugurated the symposium at the district Shilpakala Academy at 11am on Thursday. Organized by the National Nazrul Institute and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the festivities will end on April 21. She said: “National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam taught us to hold our heads high…His songs and poetry inspired freedom fighters. Hundreds of young people joined the war because of his motivation. We need to keep those songs and poetry close to our hearts.” Khilkhil Kazi, Fatema Tuz Zohra, Dr Nashid Kamal, and Jannatul Islam Kabir performed Nazrul songs at the event. Mahidul Islam recited poetry afterwards. As a part of the celebrations, a rally started from the district administrator’s office and ended at the district Shilpakala Academy. District Administrator Mohammad Khaled Rahim chaired the opening ceremony. Kobi Nazrul Institute CEO Md Abdur Razzak Bhuiyan and Secretary Md Abdur Rahim, Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ashraf Hossain, Prof Debi Prasad Roy, Municipality Mayor Dewan Kamal Ahmed, General Secretary of district Awami League unit Momtajul Hoque ,and other prominent personalities were present at the event. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will attend the closing ceremony as chief guest.
