Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy dramatics and film division hosted programs across the nation to celebrate National Film Day 2018 on April 3. The programs were organised by BSA, Dhaka and all the local Shilpakala Academies throughout 64 districts. The programs included film screenings, film carnivals, poster exhibition, seminars, film discussion sessions, meetings and cultural programs.
The series of programs began in Dhaka’s Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises with a film carnival, poster exhibition and film book exhibition. Films including “Mukh O Mukhosh,” “Kokhono Asheni,” “Emil Er Goyenda Bahini,” “Chaka,” “Matir Moyna,” “Oggatonama” and many more were screened at the event.
The film carnival was inaugurated by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky. He also presided over the discussion session, held in National Photo Gallery auditorium, along with speakers including filmmaker Mohiuddin Shaker and Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh President Lailun Nahar Shemi.
A paper titled “Hiralal Sen: Unsung hero of subcontinental film” was presented by Dr Md Jahangir Hossain. Anupam Hayat presented his paper titled “Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’s Film” and Belayet Hossain Mamun presented his paper “Bangladeshi Films: Thoughts on its Future.” BSA dramatics and film division Director Md Badrul Anam Bhuiyan gave the opening speech of this session.
After the discussion sessions, Dhaka Cultural Troupe and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s dancers performed a special dance number directed by Tamanna Rahman. A meet and greet was held at the academy’s Charu Prangon along with a film discussion session, after the performance.
