A short documentary on the ongoing Rohingya crisis, “A Pair of Sandal,” will compete in the Best Short and Best Low Budget categories at the 20th Independent Days International Film Festival in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The director of the film, Joshim Ahmed, told Showtime he is currently waiting for the festival officials to send him tickets for Germany. The festival will be held from April 18 to 22. Ahmed plans to stay there for the duration of the festival.
“I’m not expecting too much, as I know all 23 films (in the competition) are good and anyone can get the award,” he said.
Ahmed also said his film “will get a big audience, as this is a prestigious festival and all shorts are screening as closing films at the Schauburg Theatre.”
The film generated widespread public interest when it was selected for the Cannes Short Film Corner this year.
The world premiere of “A Pair of Sandal” was screened at the Naples Human Rights Festival in Italy. Ahmed, afterwards, won Best Director at the Hak-is Short Film Competition in Ankara, Turkey. It was an official selection at the Children’s Film Festival in Dhaka.
