Padmaavat enters the Rs 100 crore club
The journey of the movie “Padmaavati” to “Padmaavat” was like a roller coaster ride. After so many allegations, slapping the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the set, even the President of Kshatriya Mahasabha, Gajendra Singh declared a bounty of INR 1 crore to whoever chops off Deepika's ears and nose. After changing release dates several times, Padmaavat is now open for the audience to judge. Now Sanjay's directorial “Padmaavat” has turned out to be a winner at the box-office. The film is being lauded for the performances by the lead actors Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh and also for its grand sets. Talking about the box-office collection, the movie made about INR 27.50 crore on its first Saturday. Here's the business of “Padmaavat” until now as per a leading trade website: Wednesday (Paid Preview): Rs 4.25 crore Thursday (First-day collection): Rs 17.75 crore Friday (Second-day collection): Rs 31 crore Saturday (Third-day collection): Rs 27.50 crore Grand Total: Rs 80.50 crore Padmaavat is likely to enter the 100-crore club today, its fourth day in theatres. The Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer has made about $1.20 million business on the opening day in US and Canada, which is an all-time record. The movie has been performing well in Mumbai and parts of Punjab and also down South. The movie’s release would’ve clashed with “Padman” but on SLB’s request, Akshay pushed his release date by two weeks. Meanwhile, Deepika recently said at an event that she is expecting earth-shattering box office numbers post Padmaavat release. This is her third film with SLB after “Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela” and “Bajirao Mastani.” The masterpiece is based on 16th-century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi's “Padmaavat.” The film, produced by Sudhanshu Vats, Ajit Andhare and Bhansali was released on Thursday, ahead of Republic Day, amid protests from the Shri Rajput Karni Sena, which claims the movie distorts facts. Producer Andhare tweeted, "Padmaavat overseas beats Tiger Zinda Hai and Dangal in the US, New Zealand and Germany ... beats 'Baahubali' in Australia.”
