Bangladesh Television (BTV) is all set to launch its official YouTube channel on December 24 during its 53rd founding anniversary program at Rampura TV Bhaban in Dhaka. “We already have official Facebook and Twitter accounts but never had an official YouTube channel. In the 53rd founding anniversary program at 11.59pm on December 24, Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu will inaugurate the official YouTube channel,” said Md Masudul Haq, general manager of BTV Dhaka centre to Dhaka Tribune's Showtime. BTV hosted a get-together and cultural program for prominent and promising artists and technicians of the television industry for the occasion. The three-hour long inauguration program will be streamed on the new channel. Primarily BTV’s YouTube channel will stream for three hours a day and the duration will increase day by day. “We have converted BTV’s betacam footages and tapes to digital format so that we can upload our old programs on the YouTube channel,” said Masudul. Old flagship plays of BTV like “Kothao Keu Nei,” “Bohubrihi,” “Ei Shob Din Ratri” and many other programs will be available on the YouTube channel in high resolution. Alongside the old favourites,, the ongoing programs like “Shuprobhat Bangladesh,” “Gaan Chirodin,” “Udbhaboker Deshe” will also be available on the official YouTube channel. BTV Managing Director SM Haroon-or-Rashid earlier told the press that BTV is currently focusing on social media platforms to reach more audiences easily. BTV, formerly known as Dhaka Television, launched its test transmission from a small floor of Dhaka’s DIT Building on December 25, 1964. Later, it was renamed as Bangladesh Television in 1972, just after the independence of the country in 1971.
