Madhuri, Renuka reunite on screen after 23 years

Update : 14 Dec 2017, 10:07 PM
Madhuri Dixit and Renuka Shahane are reuniting for an untitled Marathi film directed by Tejas Vijay Deoskar after 23 years of playing the roles of sisters as Nisha and Pooja in Sooraj Barjatya's wedding musical Hum Aapke Hain Koun (HAHK). "It is a slice-of-life story with a dash of humour that a lot of people will be able to identify with. Unlike HAHK, Madhuri and Renuka are not related in our film but are connected through the narrative," said Tejas, reports an Indian news portal. The film, produced by Vivek Rangachari, is currently being filmed in Mumbai and will proceed to Pune and maybe a foreign locale after that. Renuka, who had briefly touched base with her screen sibling on the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 (on which Madhuri was one of the judges and Renuka a contestant), in 2010, admitted that she was excited to collaborate with her again. "Tejas used to make documentary films and had approached me years ago. Things did not work out then but we kept in touch. One day, he came to me with this film. After I came on board, I was told that Madhuri is playing the lead. I was thrilled to know that because I had hoped for the longest time that she would do a Marathi film. This is the perfect subject for her," Renuka says. According to the 52-year-old actress, she and Madhuri grew close on the sets of their 1994 film. "We come from a similar background. Her mom would be on the sets and I would chat with her in Marathi. Back then, working with huge stars was unnerving for me but we shared a warm relationship and all credit goes to Madhuri. She is down-to-earth and professional. I always say that if you get a chance to work with Madhuri, you should offer money to the producer for the opportunity," said Renuka to Indian press. The film kicked off last week and according to Renuka's account, the duo took off from where they had left off. "We still have so many things in common. Both of us are married, have two boys in the same age group. We spoke about everything from quantum physics to motherhood," Renuka said.
