RockStrata - one of the pioneers of heavy metal in Bangladesh, and the first to bring out a heavy metal album, among their countless accolades - has announced the DVD for their final performance "RockStrata: One Last Live" is complete.
The band announced the good news on their official Facebook page Tuesday night.
The One Last Live concert took place on January 9, 2015, one I feel privileged to have experienced. The concert essentially made Krishibid Institute Bangladesh "metal" for life.
With the regrettable absence of vocalist Mushfiq Ahmed, the band asked several vocalists from other bands to pitch in. Jamshed from Powersurge, Sufi from Arbovirus, Palash from Radioactive, Lincoln from Artcell, and Shakib from Cryptic Fate took turns singing with their idols. Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, an old friend of the band, joined in for a track he worked on for their album "Notun Shader Khoje." The enthusiasm and the energy of the crowd was palpable, even middle-aged women rushed to the front of the stage, banging their heads while their teenage daughters looked on disapprovingly from afar.
Aside from one of the greatest heavy metal bands from this hemisphere performing live, and generations of musicians inspired by them performing with them, the concert also featured drummer Mahbubur Rashid's earth-shattering, heaven-shaking drum solo.
This was my first encounter with the band, which also happened to be their swansong.
This DVD is monumental for the music scene in Bangladesh. To date, no concert DVD has been successfully released, due to myriad reasons. But RockStrata, as the first band to have released a Bangla heavy metal album in Bangladesh, look to continue its pioneering streak with the first live DVD. The band posted that the date will be announced very soon.
