First Bangladeshi Oscar winner Nafees to join Digital World 2017

Bangladeshi software engineer Nafees Bin Zafar, who received the Academy Award in 2007, is set to attend the Digital World 2017. Bangladesh Computer Council Director Enamul Kabir confirmed his Nafees’s arrival. “Nafees Bin Zafar will participate in second day of the Digital World exhibition 2017. The exhibition will begin on December 6 and end on December 9,” said Enamul. US born Nafees was awarded with the Academy Award in 2007 for his contribution in the development of the fluid simulation system for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Nafees, grandson of the famous late Bangladeshi poet Golam Mostafa and nephew of the famous Bangladeshi artist Mostafa Monowar, is the first Bangladeshi to win Oscar. Digital World is the largest information-technology based fare in Bangladesh which will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center. Enamul Kabir said: “The session of Nafees will start at 5pm and will continue till 7:30pm.” The authorities concerned of the fare decided to invite Nafees for the Digital World because they think Bangladesh is performing better at gaming industry Nafees can improve the industry by sharing his knowledge with the Bangladeshi developers. “The first social robot Sophia will also attend in the Digital world,” said Enamul Kabir. Sophia is a humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics. The robot can respond to questions and answer symbolically. The robot became a Saudi Arabian citizen in October 2017, the first robot to receive citizenship of any country.
