Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Arjun Gupta recently said in a letter to India’s Home Minister that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has tried to malign Rani Padmavati’s sacrifice through his upcoming film “Padmavati.”
Though recently the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a stay on the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, Arjun Gupta, general secretary of Uttar Bharatiya Morcha, (BJP), has sought a ban on this film in a letter addressed to Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
In his letter, Gupta also asked for bringing Bhansali to book for his attempt to distort the history.
“Bhansali needs to be severely punished so that no director dares to undertake such projects in the future,” the letter read.
Arjun Gupta also urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) not to certify the film in his letter.
“I am confident that my letter will be taken into consideration. A sedition case has been filed in this connection,” the BJP leader added.
Padmavati is slated to release on December 1 and movie has already started drawing negative reactions from different quarters.
Bhansali, however, claimed that there is no such scene between Rani Padmavati and the invader Alauddin Khilji in this movie which may hurt the sentiment of any community.
